I am undeniably a lucky person. Always have been. When I was younger, I resented it a bit, because I felt like much of the time my hard work and accomplishments were written off by friends and family as luck. And they may have been right. As J. R. “Bob” Dobbs once said, (and I paraphrase) I would rather be lucky than smart. From Sapient Capital.
In golf, getting a hole-in-one, chipping in from a sand trap, or other similar feats are considered lucky even by the professionals because they are so rare and difficult. But it is also true that the high skill level of the pros make such events more likely simply because their talents put them in a position for good luck to happen more often for them than for average players.
In my youth, and being a fanatic (if not overly talented) golfer, I followed the big names of the day. A common saying among golfers at the time is generally attributed to Gary Player (although others used it then and still do today). “The harder I practice, the luckier I get.” I find a great deal of truth in that saying, and not just for golf.

Funny my old advisor told me this. He was quoting some old timey golfer, but I wanna say it was Chi Chi Rodriguez. I’m think his version was “the harder you work, the luckier you get”.

Google tells me this quote is from Gary Player, or perhaps Thomas Jefferson.
