The real reason solar and wind power keeps getting deployed is that it is cheap. Very cheap. So places that use lots of solar and wind should be seeing cheaper electricity. In Spain it’s happening that way. Oh, and they have cut their dependence on imported fossil fuels by over 50%.

War is a Racket
A while back I ran across General Smedley Butler, a decorated US Marine General during WW I who almost became the fascist dictator of the US (The Business Plot). Instead Butler wrote a slim 33 page booklet called “War is a Racket“. I just read it and you should too. It’s available from Google Books for $2 and from several other sources. I did not find a free copy at Project Gutenberg, but there is a readable copy (HTML) at a Canadian version of Project Gutenberg.

America has a long history of political assassination and violence. When I was a boy I remember all the guys who were so famous they went by initials getting shot. RFK, MLK, JFK, Malcolm X. It got quiet for a while but it seems to be coming back. A good read from a British journalist.
