The term “buff” came up today.  As in a hobbyist.  Or whatever a good synonym would be.  I can’t say I have heard this word much recently and googled it.  The on-line dictionaries had a few definitions but not what I was looking for.  Then the Voice of America Learning English site comes through again. Who knew it went back to early NYC firefighters:
